The delicious details

Poké Perfect started in 2016 as a family business, set up in Amsterdam by siblings Quinta and Gerrit Jan Witzel and joined by their sister Anna a year later. It has since grown into a chain with locations across the Netherlands.

The Den Haag branch sits on the Turfmarkt, a few minutes on foot from Den Haag Centraal and next door to the ministries and Leiden University's Den Haag campus. It is a counter service room with indoor seating and bike parking at the door, set up for a quick lunch, an early dinner or a bowl to take away.

Every bowl is assembled to order from a base of sushi rice, quinoa or baby greens, one protein, three vegetable toppings and a sauce. Salmon, tuna and halal chicken and beef sit beside plant based proteins such as vegan salmon, sticky tempeh and crispy tofu, with three set vegan bowls.

Menu
What's on the table, and what's left off

Build-your-own bowls from three bases: sushi rice, quinoa or baby greens. You choose one protein (fish, halal meat, or plant-based options such as vegan salmon, sticky tempeh and crispy tofu), three toppings from over a dozen vegetables, and a sauce. Vegetables are part of every bowl. Plant-based eaters have a full route through the menu, with three set vegan bowls and sides such as seaweed salad, spring rolls and pickled vegetables all meat-free. All meat is halal.

The format is build your own: a base of sushi rice, quinoa or baby greens, one protein, three toppings and a sauce. The topping list runs from edamame, cucumber, radish and pickled vegetables to beetroot, corn and chickpeas, with sweet potato, broccoli, avocado, mango and seaweed salad as paid extras, so vegetables are part of every bowl rather than a side order.

Plant based eaters have a full route through the menu. Vegan salmon, sticky tempeh, crispy tofu and vegan gyoza sit in the same protein list as the fish and meat, there are three set vegan bowls, and sides such as seaweed salad, spring rolls and pickled vegetables are meat free. All meat on the menu is halal.

Allergens are printed per dish on the online menu, covering gluten, sesame, soy, fish, crustaceans, milk, egg, mustard, celery, nuts and sulphites, and the full allergen list can be downloaded alongside the menu. Guests are asked to tell staff about an allergy when they order.

Poké Perfect publishes a structured progression for restaurant staff: Poké Pro, trained on the job with no prior experience needed; Poké Master, who leads shifts and coaches the floor; and Poké Chief, who runs a location.

The aim is to move people from part time work into management roles. Rotas are arranged around study commitments and every shift comes with a bowl from the kitchen.

The brand positions local sourcing as a value, and past reporting records regional origins including tomatoes from Osdorp and quinoa from Flevoland.

Poké Perfect positions suppliers as chosen 'preferably local, quality is key, and ingredients that haven't been sitting in a warehouse for a week'. This is stated on the brand's story page and guides the sourcing philosophy, though no named producer, farm or grower is attached to any ingredient.

Trade coverage from March 2023 documents regional sourcing including tomatoes from Osdorp, quinoa from Flevoland and Dutch kale bought when in season; Norwegian salmon is also recorded. These sources are now more than three years old and have not been corroborated by more recent public statements.

Past reporting documents a climate labelling programme, reusable packaging including deposit glass bowls, and carbon compensation to Trees for All.

Trade coverage from March 2023 documents a climate labelling programme across fish, vegan and meat bowls, with per-ingredient and full lifecycle emissions calculated by Klimato, and a 0.25 euro per-bowl carbon compensation option donated to Trees for All and Justdiggit. The same sources describe reusable chopsticks and deposit glass bowls, and a move to reusable in-house packaging.

These supporting sources are now more than three years old and have not been updated or corroborated by recent website content. The current Poké Perfect site carries no waste, packaging or emissions information, and the live menu shows no climate label or compensation option.

Meat is labelled halal with a free-range designation; fish sourcing includes Norwegian salmon.

The live menu labels the meat '100% Halal, vrije uitloop' (free range), marking both the halal certification and free-range practice for chicken and beef. All meat is halal, as confirmed in the FAQ.

Fish is central to the menu format, including salmon, ahi tuna, miso glazed salmon and shrimp tempura. Trade coverage from March 2023 places the salmon in Norway, though no named farm or sustainability certification is attached. No MSC, ASC or equivalent mark appears on the current menu or story page.

A structured staff progression programme runs from bowl makers to location managers, with training on the job, meal provision per shift, and flexible scheduling around study commitments.

Poké Perfect publishes a structured internal progression for restaurant staff: Poké Pro for bowl makers trained on the job with no prior experience required, Poké Master for shift leaders who coach the team, and Poké Chief for location managers running a restaurant. The stated aim is to move people from part-time work into management roles.

Staff receive a meal on shift and rotas are arranged around study commitments. Trade coverage from March 2023 records roughly 180 staff across locations with standardised training protocols.

Every bowl is built on a vegetable or grain base with three vegetable toppings, and plant-based proteins including vegan salmon, tempeh and tofu sit alongside fish and meat on equal menu footing.

Every bowl is built on a vegetable or grain base, choosing from sushi rice, quinoa or baby greens. Three vegetable toppings are included as standard, selected from over a dozen options: carrot, cherry tomato, corn, cucumber, edamame, pineapple, radish, red beet, spring onion, chickpeas and pickled vegetables, with premium additions such as sweet potato, broccoli, avocado, mango and seaweed salad.

Plant-based proteins are a full route through the menu: vegan salmon, sticky tempeh, crispy tofu and vegan gyoza sit in the same protein list as the fish and meat. There are three set vegan bowls and several meat-free sides. A vegan directory corroborates three vegan and six vegetarian meals available. Fish and meat proteins remain equally prominent in the menu structure.

How we score
The My Treats impact scale

Every restaurant is assessed against SEERO, our six-dimension sustainability framework — covering sourcing, seasonality, waste, animal products, social impact, and plant-forward cooking. Each finding is weighted by how strongly it is corroborated. The combined result is translated into an impact score from 1 to 5.

The five levels

SEERO is an acronym for Starting, Engaged, Endorsed, Recognised, Outstanding:

Starting First verified signals of sustainable practice.
Engaged Credible practice across two dimensions.
This place
Endorsed Meaningful practice across three or more dimensions.
Recognised Strong practice across four or more dimensions, with independent corroboration.
Outstanding Top-tier practice, confirmed by recognised third-party audit.

How a level is reached. Each level needs two things together: a minimum number of dimensions covered, and a minimum overall strength of evidence across them. A dimension only counts once its evidence is specific and substantiated — a passing mention doesn't qualify. Meeting only one of the two keeps a restaurant a level lower.

Scores of four or five require human validation and, at the top tier, an external audit. Scores are based on publicly available evidence and restaurant submissions at the time of assessment.

How evidence is weighted
Self-declared Stated by the restaurant on its website, menu or in a submission. Plausible, but not yet independently corroborated.
Researched Found through independent research; one credible third-party source backs the claim.
Vouched Corroborated across more than one independent source. Some gaps may remain.
Audited Fully corroborated across independent sources or by a recognised third-party certification.
What the sourcing checkmarks mean
✓ Full check — independently verified: corroborated across more than one source, or audited / third-party certified (vouched or audited).
✓ Light check — self-declared or from a single source. Not yet independently verified.
