The delicious details

Bloem occupies a former warehouse on the Entrepotdok canal, directly across from Artis Zoo, with a waterside terrace that catches the evening sun. The kitchen is entirely plant based, organic (EKO certified) and gluten free, holding the only full NCV gluten free certification in Amsterdam. Since 2022, the menu has been completely vegan, a decision rooted in the belief that plant based cooking is better for the world.

Chef Daniel Hutchinson and his team prepare everything from scratch in a compact kitchen: sourdough bread, fermented and pickled vegetables, lemonades, kombucha, and desserts. Seasonal vegetables form the backbone of a three course menu that changes regularly, with dishes slow cooked, roasted and fermented to draw out depth of flavour. The ground floor seats guests near the open kitchen, while a first floor room with low ceilings offers a quieter setting.

A three-course plant-based dinner menu (EUR 42.50) built entirely from whole, unprocessed ingredients. Every component is prepared in-house: sourdough bread, fermented vegetables, fresh cut fries and cakes. Fermentation, slow cooking and roasting build flavour without refined additives. Weekend lunch service offers rolls, salads and soup. Organic EKO certified ingredients throughout; fully gluten-free (NCV certified) and peanut-free.

Seasonal vegetables guide the menu, which changes regularly to follow what is available; since October 2025, the restaurant has been an ambassador of Biodiversiteit op je Bord, a programme promoting biodiversity-aware and seasonally aligned cooking.

In the kitchen, fermentation, pickling and preservation reduce food waste while extending the life of seasonal produce. The kitchen runs on green electricity and uses ecological cleaning products.

All ingredients and beverages carry EKO organic certification, and the restaurant holds the only NCV gluten free certification in Amsterdam, with audited inventory and ordering practices.

How we score
The My Treats impact scale

Every restaurant is assessed against SEERO, our six-dimension sustainability framework — covering sourcing, seasonality, waste, animal products, social impact, and plant-forward cooking. Each finding is weighted by how strongly it is corroborated. The combined result is translated into a planet rating from 1 to 5.

The five levels

SEERO is an acronym for Starting, Engaged, Endorsed, Recognised, Outstanding:

Starting First verified signals of sustainable practice.
Engaged Credible practice across two dimensions.
Endorsed Meaningful practice across three or more dimensions.
Recognised Strong practice across four or more dimensions, with independent corroboration.
This place
Outstanding Top-tier practice, confirmed by recognised third-party audit.

How a level is reached. Each level needs two things together: a minimum number of dimensions covered, and a minimum overall strength of evidence across them. A dimension only counts once its evidence is specific and substantiated — a passing mention doesn't qualify. Meeting only one of the two keeps a restaurant a level lower.

Ratings of four or five planets require human validation and, at the top tier, an external audit. Scores are based on publicly available evidence and restaurant submissions at the time of assessment.
